The elders at Bethlehem Baptist Church are moving ahead with succession planning, appointing Jason Meyer as John Piper’s eventual successor. The plan is to have Meyer serve alongside Piper for a year as associate pastor of preaching and vision. All this is planned with a view to freeing Dr. Piper for writing and deeper involvement at Bethlehem Seminary.
My prayers are with Bethlehem during this time of transition, and they will need God’s grace; any pastoral transition is fraught with difficulties. Yet it is nonetheless wise to plan for the future and the continuation of ministry, as none of us will last forever.
