Today saw the members of Alberta’s new legislative assembly sworn in, an event pre-ordained, like all things, by the same God who warned another set of political leaders: “Were I to write for him my laws by the ten thousands, they would be regarded as a strange thing” (Hos. 8:12). See, laws, even God’s, can’t save–something for legalists, theonomists, and political activists alike to remember. The lack of “the right laws” isn’t the human problem; sin, and the lack of the Gospel is. So pray with me today for Alberta’s new leaders, as 2 Timothy 2:2 commands. Pray that they would not look to their own feeble lawmaking for hope, but rather to the One who alone is worthy of such faith.
